KUCHING: The Persatuan Anak Istimewa Sarawak (Perais) has postponed and cancelled upcoming activities as well as meetings until further notice.

This is following the association’s president Rapelson Richard Hamit having to undergo a 14-day quarantine after a swab test due to close contact with a Covid-19 positive case.

In a statement today (Mar 24), Rapelson has urged for the postponement of events or community programmes involving government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) until the people have been vaccinated.

“Due to close contact with a positive case in Kampung Batu Gong Lama in Siburan, my family and I as well as the other villagers are undergoing the 14-day quarantine. The health examination was conducted at the village’s community hall.

“It is believed that the close contact involves a cluster due to participation in a gotong-royong and walkabout cheque handover programme at the village’s community hall recently.

“I hope that any social gathering events or community programme will be postponed until everyone has completed their vaccination dosage. This is to prevent the transmission of Covid-19,” he said.

He also advised the villagers of Kampung Batu Gong Lama and the community in the surrounding areas to remain calm as well as follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the Ministry of Health (MoH) to flatten the curve of the pandemic.
