BARAM: The Penan community in Kampung Data Bila will enjoy a more comfortable life with the construction of its first concrete longhouse in the area.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala stressed that this initiative was an important step in improving the living standards of the Penan community.

“The construction of this new longhouse is not just about providing a more comfortable place to live, but also part of an effort to empower the community with better basic facilities,” he said when officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Kampung Data Bila longhouse recently.

In addition, Gerawat also stressed that the government was actively improving infrastructure in the interior of Baram, including upgrading the main road from Bario to Long Banga as well as routes to several villages such as Data Bila, Pengaran Iman, Pengaran Kalian, Long Lellang and Long Main.

“After the logging period ends, the government will take over and upgrade these roads for the well-being of the people here,” he added.
