KUCHING: Pearly Tan and Mulitharan Thinaah have made it to the finals of Indonesia Masters after a hard fought semis victory against South Korea’s Lee Yeon Woo-Lee Yu Lim over a decisive 21-19, 21-16 set win today (Jan 25).
The first set saw the national women’s doubles take the lead with a score of 11-4 in the first half of the set, however in the midst of their march, they lost their footing, allowing the Korean pair to catch up to them, leaving them stumbling to a narrow win of 21-19.
Comes set two, where Lee Yeon-Lee Yu made a commanding lead over the national athletes.
However a blunder in their set-piece left them vulnerable to Pearly-Thinaah’s decisive plays minutes after. This in return, made them lose their lead before conceding a 21-16 loss to the Malaysian pair.
As Pearly-Thinaah are left with their determination to earn their first title of the year, they must first break past the only thing standing between them — that is the Kim Hye Jeong-Kong Hee Yong duo from South Korea, their Indonesia Masters finals opponent.
The Korean women’s doubles pair previously won their semis match against Jia Yi Fan- Zhang Shu Xian in a parallel 21-17, 22-20 bout.
They are set to face off against them in the final match tomorrow (Jan 26).
The winner of the women’s doubles are set to take home $37,525(about RM164,284) while the runner-up will receive $18,050 (RM79,022).
