KUCHING: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) will defend all of its seats in the upcoming 13th State Election (PRN-13), says its vice president Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.
According to Henry, any party outside of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition that intends to contest in PDP’s areas will be considered an opponent.
“As for me, on behalf of GPS, PDP wants to inform that GPS will defend all 82 seats in the upcoming election.
“Any party from outside GPS will be our opponent at that time, and we will leave it to the voters to decide the outcome,” he said.
He was quoted as saying this in a TVS report following rumours suggesting that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is interested in fielding candidates in the Engkilili and Ba’kelalan constituencies.
Henry, who is also Tasik Biru assemblyman, said he believes Sarawak voters will support GPS as the only coalition safeguarding the state’s rights.
He added that PDP, as a component party within GPS, would also take part in defending all 82 seats under GPS, as previously stated by the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
For the record, the Engkilili and Ba’kelalan seats are currently represented respectively by Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa and Baru Bian from PDP after the dissolution of their former party, Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB).
