SIBU: The Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Sibu Jaya is calling on more members of the public, particularly the Bumiputera community, to join the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu branch.

PDP Sibu Jaya chief Councillor Paul Teo said this marks the second time they have participated in the MRCS flag sale programme.

“Today, we engaged and brought together the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and the Neighbourhood Watch Committee (KRT) to support MRCS, as we in PDP hope for greater support from the Bumiputera and local communities, regardless of race or religion,” he said.

He said this when speaking to reporters at the MRCS Flag Sale programme, which was officiated by PDP Central Zone Vice Chairman Datuk Teo Boon Siew at the Sibu Jaya Tamu Market today (Apr 13).

Paul said that around 20 individuals, comprising PDP members, four JKKKs and one KRT, participated in the programme.

Meanwhile, Teo urged the government to provide allocations to MRCS for its programmes, noting the organisation’s commendable efforts in assisting the community.

“We can see this through their blood donation drives and even this flag sale – they collect funds from the public not for their own use, but to give back to the community,” he said.

He also praised MRCS Sibu Branch Chairman Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee contribution, having dedicated 54 years of service to the MRCS Sibu branch.

“It’s not easy to be a devoted volunteer for so many years. I would also like to thank the public for their continued help and support – without them, these noble efforts would not be possible,” he added.
