SIBU: The Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) are expected to merge in December, said PDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
Tiong, who is also the federal Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture said both parties need to thrash out a few matters for the merger to materialise.
“We can be here together today, thanks to our Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for giving us the opportunity and space for the merger.
“I have one wish for both parties; let’s find a way together to move forward. Focus on collaboration and how we can work together,” he said when officiating at the PDP and PSB unity dinner here tonight.
Tiong hoped the other parties do not speculate or view negatively about the impending merger.
“When other parties see PSB and PDP joining together and backstabbing us every day, they should first look into the mirror and see what they have done.
“Do not speculate or accuse us of something that is untrue. We must be sincere. We must be real political friends and partners.
Meanwhile, PSB president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh said a high-level committee will be formed to work out the agenda of action to bring about the merger.
The Bawang Assan assemblyman said the merged party will be led by Tiong as its president.
“There are some nitty-gritty details to be worked out. I am confident that with sincerity and an attitude of give and take, all things can be worked out smoothly between PDP and PSB.
Meanwhile, asked by reporters whether the merged party would adopt a new name, Wong said it will be called PDP as it is a Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) party component.
“However, we will discuss the constitution, rules, and other matters that will be agreed upon by both parties,” he said.
Among those present were PDP deputy president Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, senior vice presidents I and II Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil and Rolland Duat, PSB deputy president Dr Johnical Rayong and secretary general Baru Bian.
