KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth deputy chief Miro Simuh wants authorities to act quickly following reports of Pakistanis making a nuisance of themselves in Bau, a town about an hour’s drive from here.

“I don’t know who is to be blamed but most importantly, stern action must be taken against this group,” he said today.

Doing more harm than good, the Serembu assemblyman said, the Pakistanis were a bad influence on the local populace.

On Thursday, a non-governmental organisation You Are Truly Trusted Society Sarawak through its president Francis James Noew urged the immigration and other relevant authorities to act against the immigrants.

The NGO alleged that the foreigners were freely doing business without permits, and sexually harassing local womenfolk.

Francis said this was the second time the NGO had filed a police report and sent a letter to the Immigration Department – the first was in 2015 but no action was taken.

It is believed that the Pakistanis only had passports and not working or business permits.

Miro said what the NGO alleged could have some truth and could be based on information it had gathered.

“Therefore, I urged the Immigration Department to be proactive and resolve this issue immediately.”

Ask for his advice to locals, Miro urged them to be vigilant and to not buy anything from the foreigners.

Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol could not be reached for comments today.

Meanwhile, TasikBiru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep will hold a press conference regarding the issue at his office in Bau at 11am tomorrow.
