KUCHING: The Mambong branch of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) has resolved to support the retaining of the party president and deputy president posts uncontested in its upcoming elections.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas commended the branch for its stance, describing it as a testament to the members’ confidence in Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s leadership.

He also urged members and all Sarawakians to rally firmly behind Abang Johari as he continues the fight to reclaim the state’s eroded rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Uggah (second left) strikes the gong as a symbolic gesture to officiate the event.

“Certain groups and individuals have resorted to fabricating lies and spreading slander in an attempt to discredit him.

“Their actions stem from jealousy over his achievements, which have earned praise and recognition from many countries.

“These detractors are also displeased with Abang Johari’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding Sarawak’s rights,” he said.

Uggah said this during the branch’s meeting at a hotel here on Saturday.

In addition to political matters, Uggah said coffee cultivation has the potential to become a significant economic driver for the Mambong area.

He noted that there are ongoing plans to scale up coffee farming and establish a modern processing facility, initiatives championed by Mambong assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil with support from the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA).

“If each of the approximately 5,000 households here plants one hectare of coffee, Mambong could become Sarawak’s coffee belt.

“This would bring greater returns and enable farmers to address challenges collectively,” he added.

Uggah reiterated that modern agriculture is a key focus of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, with a goal of enhancing rural income opportunities.

Meanwhile, Dr Jerip who was also present proposed upgrading Mambong sub-district to full district status, emphasising the need for better infrastructure and services to support economic growth.

Dr Jerip, who is Deputy Minister for Transport, also called for greater representation of the Bidayuh community in the state public service commission.
