SIBU: The Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Bawang Assan Women’s Wing has launched the Selinggar Matahari Committee Sibu during its Pre-Christmas Gathering cum Fundraising dinner here last night (Dec 8).
Its chairwoman Flora Jaya said the committee was established in its efforts to empower women within the party.
“Our vision is to improve women’s self-development in line with current trends through the implementation of various activities.
“For example, organising skills courses, motivational programmes, assisting the community through contributions, collective efforts, and so on,” said Flora, who is also the organising chairperson for the dinner in her speech.
Flora expressed hopes that the committee will receive full support from others and can further develop to achieve its goal.
“I hope that our committee members, all the women, will try their best to empower themselves in line with current development. Don’t just sit there and do nothing.
“We need to ‘stand up’ and start working hard to ensure that we can be on par with others in the community,” she said.
Meanwhile PBB Bawang Assan chairman Romeo Christopher Tegong also expressed his full support for the committee.
“We have always been supporting our PBB Bawang Assan Women’s Wing in whatever ventures they will do. I am very proud of all your efforts,” he said.
Also present were Romeo’s wife, who is also the committee’s patron, Veronica Belankat, Temenggung Stanley Gramong Bandar and others.
