BINTULU: The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Kakus branch has adopted six rural schools in the Kakus area as part of an initiative to promote academic excellence among students.
The branch will implement its programmes in cooperation with the respective parent-teacher associations (PTAs) and teachers.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas praised the branch’s efforts, calling it a noble undertaking.
“Through this adoption programme, the branch is collaborating with the schools concerned in organising tuition classes and motivation talks. It is also forging a close alliance with the PTAs to get parents more involved in their children’s education,” he said during the PBB Kakus branch pre-Gawai Dayak dinner celebration recently.
Uggah noted the presence of many role models for students to look up to.
“We have many successful people like lawyers, engineers, educationists, and business persons coming from rural areas. This is all due to the process of education where these individuals were sufficiently motivated to take up their studies seriously and then managed to pursue tertiary education,” he added.
During the event, Uggah presented grants of RM5,000 each to the six adopted schools to support their activities. He also pledged RM30,000 to the Gawai Dayak organising committee, while Bukit Goram assemblyman Datuk Jefferson Jamit pledged RM20,000.
Among those present were Selangau MP Edwin Banta and Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan.
