KUCHING: Sarawak government will revise the multiplier factors on engineers to encourage them to fully supervise workers on site, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“With the increase of the multiplier factors, we hope the engineers could fully supervise them on site such as when they repair roads and bridges. We cannot afford to let them conduct their repairing job in a haphazard manner,” he told reporters after the closing ceremony of a seminar at Pullman.
The Seminar on Road Technology and Technical Manpower in Sarawak that was conducted in Pullman starting last Monday was meant to help contractors and engineers find the best way to improve their work quality and the quality of the road in the state.
“When we build our bridges and roads, no toll shall be implemented as what had been decided by the late chief minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem.
“There are a lot of new inputs as well as new approaches on how to construct roads on our soil and I also believe the seminar will sort of produce a formula for us to construct roads on our soil and to come up with ways to maintain those roads,” he added.
Abang Johari also stressed that based on his observations of other countries, once they have constructed the roads, maintenance becomes a priority.
He said their main focus is to maintain the condition of the roads in a most effective and economic manner.
“Starting from this year until three to six years, we are going to build the coastal roads which we have divided into three areas.
“These roads will complement the three airports in Spaoh (Betong), in Tunoh (Kapit) and in Lawas,” he said.
