KUCHING: The Sarawak Patriot Association (SPA) hopes that both the federal and state governments could explain the relocation of the Registry of the High Court in Sarawak to Sabah.

The registry has been located in Kuching since the formation of Malaysia in 1963.

SPA secretary Hii Chin Loung said, “SPA has no qualms concerning the relocation provided that the due process of law is followed.

“After all, Malaysia is a democratic nation which practises the rule of law which protects the rights of citizens and limits the power of governments,” he told New Sarawak Tribune, yesterday.

Still, Hii reminded Putrajaya to ensure that the proper process is followed in decisions or moves that affect Sabah and Sarawak.

SPA treasurer Jonah Lau urged the legal fraternities of Sabah and Sarawak to remain united in light of the relocation of the registry.

He said the legal fraternities must not be affected by it because they have been the vanguards that advocate for Sabah and Sarawak to reclaim their equal partner status in accordance with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“If Putrajaya is sincere in reinstating Sabah and Sarawak as equal partners of Malaysia, then surely it can be easily done like relocating the registry,” he said.
