KUCHING: Lions Club in Kuching has been lauded for its contribution to the community here.
Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the non-governmental organisation held charity events and worked with relevant parties to establish closer ties with them.
“Congratulations to the Lions Club for continuing to commit to serving the community not only financially, but also inculcating noble values.
“It is very important that charity programmes are carried out with the cooperation of various parties, not just to collect funds but to build closer ties,” he said when speaking at the Lions Club of Kuching Host charity programme in conjunction with the premiere of the film ‘Rajah’ at The Spring shopping mall here yesterday (Mar 5).
Later, commenting on the film, Dr Sim said it was very significant to the history of Sarawak.
It had important values including sacrifice and struggle for freedom, he added.
“Likewise, the actors and production crew who have worked hard and sacrificed time to produce a good film do give a big impact on the Sarawak community,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lions Club in Kuching was collecting funds through the ticket sales of the film.
The funds will be used to support charitable programmes organised by Lion Clubs in the city.
Also present yesterday was District 308-A2 of Lions Club International vice district governor II Annie Ho.
