KUCHING: Sarawak is out to reclaim the Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma)) championship title from Sabah during the 21st edition of the Games, set to take place here next week.
As the host state, it aims to fully capitalise on the home advantage to achieve this goal.
Para Sukma Sarawak Chef de Mission Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam said to realise this mission, Sarawak’s athletes must achieve the target of 83 gold medals.
“We want to take back the championship from Sabah, as we fell short by just four gold medals in 2022.
“This time, our target is 83 gold medals, based on the forecasts we have made during training,” he said to reporters at the closing of the 21st Para Sukma Sarawak 2024 Athletes’ Camp with the chef de mission, his assistants, and liaison officers here on Tuesday (Sept 17).
Razi added that the camp was designed to inspire the athletes, strengthen their fighting spirit, and cultivate a positive mindset as they prepare for the competition.
The opening ceremony of this year’s Para Sukma will be held on Sept 22 at the Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya.
Attendance will be limited to athletes’ parents and family members only.
Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar will officiate at the opening.
