KUCHING: Athletes in the 21st Para Malaysia Games (ParaSUKMA) will receive daily allowances during their non-training days.
Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said that these allowances were designed to support athletes who may lack a permanent job and steady income.
“This is why we prepared allowances for the athletes’ daily expenditure when they are not training for ParaSUKMA,” she told reporters during a visit to the Sarawak Aquatics Excellence Centre here today (May 28).
She also said that the allowance amounts vary across different categories, with specific amounts set for returning competitors and medallists.
“Right now, we have a few categories with differing amounts, but for the athletes who have competed before and medal holders, they will have a fixed amount of allowance,” she added.
In addition to financial support, Fatimah highlighted Sarawak’s strategic efforts to maximise their medal tally.
“We need to win at least 84 gold medals this time in order to be the overall champion for ParaSUKMA this year,” she said, revealing the state had registered athletes in over 200 events to bolster their chances.
