MIRI: Sarawak Shell Berhad has awarded the contract for the construction of the Shell Malaysia Upstream headquarters at Miri Times Square here, to Pantai Bayu Indah.

The symbolic handover of the letter of award to the contractor today (Aug 26) was witnessed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The new 14-storey multitenant office building when completed by August next year – with Shell as its anchor tenant – will be a sustainable and energy efficient building.

Some of the facilities that will be available at the building are Electric Vehicle (EV) charging bays, solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and a dedicated garden area to enrich the workplace experience.

Shell Malaysia chairman and senior vice president of Upstream Malaysia Ivan Tan expressed his delight at the new office plans, saying, “Shell has a long and proud history in Sarawak, and we look forward to continuing to contribute to Sarawak and Malaysia’s economic growth and energy transition journey from this new space.

“The building is reflective of our aspiration of powering progress towards a more sustainable energy future. I want to also thank all our partners for supporting us in this endeavour.”

Meanwhile, ParkCity Group executive chairman Datuk Seri Yaw Chee Siew, who represented Pantai Bayu Indah Sdn Bhd, said the 14-storey building will be the latest landmark green building for Miri with sustainable features.

“I hope the Shell Malaysia Upstream headquarters building is just the start to placing Miri city on the charts as a commercial hub and regional destination,” he said.

The event was also attended by federal Deputy Minister of Finance Yamani Hafez Musa, delegates from Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM) Petronas and various federal and state government officials.
