KUALA LUMPUR: National diving queen Datuk Pandelela Rinong failed to qualify for the women’s 10-metre (m) platform final at the 2025 World Aquatics Diving World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico today.
In the preliminary round , she finished 13th with a total score of 267.85 points, thus missing out on a spot among the top 12 divers to advance to the final scheduled on Sunday.
This marked Pandelela’s first appearance since her last competitive outing at the 2024 Malaysia Open in November.
Spanish diver, Valeria Antolino secured the 12th and final qualifying spot with a score of 275.15 points.
China’s Quan Hongchan and Chen Yuxi dominated the event, claiming the top two spots.
Quan, the 2020 Tokyo and 2024 Paris Olympics 10m platform gold medallist amassed 390.40 points to finish first.
Meanwhile, Chen, who partnered with Quan to clinch the women’s synchro 10m platform gold in Paris 2024, secured second place with 373.65 points.
In the meantime, national diver Enrique Harold is set to compete in the men’s 10m platform qualifying round today.
The World Aquatics Diving World Cup 2025 features two stops including Windsor, Canada, from April 10 to 13, and the newly re-imagined super final stage scheduled in Beijing, China, from May 2 to 4. – BERNAMA
