KUCHING: The upgrading of the Redline routes along Pan Borneo Highway (PBH) needs to be done to align its standard with the PBH.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that there are about 140 km of the said routes in a few areas which were not included in the budget during the original PBH plan.

“As these routes were not included in the PBH’s construction, they are now in poor condition. So, it is necessary for us to upgrade it.

“We already have a plan for the upgrade and we need almost RM1 billion to completely upgrade them. That is why my ministry is currently working on applying for funds for us to completely upgrade the routes,” he said.

He said this when met by the media during Gawai Dayak Open House at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.

For the record, the upgrading of the routes includes the stretch from Batu Kawa to Serian; Julau to Sibu Airport roundabout; Bintulu Airport to Nyabau; Pujut Link to Kuala Baram; and nine overtaking lanes.
