MIRI: A fire broke out at a palm oil mill’s waste oil cooling pond in Sibuti on Saturday, prompting an emergency response from the Fire and Rescue Department.

Firefighters from the Batu Niah Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to the scene following a distress call received at 11.01 am.

The fire, which engulfed the mill’s cooling pond covering an area of 5,643.15 square metres, did not result in any casualty.

Workers from the mill initiated early firefighting efforts using 50 fire extinguishers before fire crew arrived.

A team of firefighters, assisted by 30 mill workers, carried out the operation by deploying two hose lines.

Water was sourced from the mill’s fire hydrant.

The operation concluded at 3.14 pm.
