KUCHING: The community was taken by surprise early this morning (Apr 6) when the wall of a paint shop on the upper floor of a building suddenly collapsed at Jalan Padungan.

Fortunately, the incident did not result in any injuries.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the incident happened around 6 am near the Padungan police station.

Firefighters from Padungan station rushed to the scene following a distress call and discovered that the building’s wall had cracked before giving way.

As a safety precaution, the team immediately evacuated the affected shop along with neighbouring shops on the first and second floors.

Hazard warning tapes were also placed around the site to keep the public at a safe distance.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the area closely, with power supply to the building cut off to minimise any further risks.
