SIBU: The Professional and Continuing Education Centre (PACE) of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) recently demonstrated its commitment to community service by supporting orphans at the Juma’ani Tuanku Haji Bujang Welfare Complex through the ‘Kami Prihatin’ programme.
According to a statement, 65 participants, including PACE UUM students, visited the Sarawak Orphan Welfare Association (Peryatim) in Sibu.
“The aim of our initiative is to strengthen the bond between students and orphans, as well as the residents of Sibu Peryatim. It provides an opportunity for participants to understand the challenges faced by the less fortunate,” the statement explained.
Engaging with a group of 53 orphans at the complex aligns with the goal of expressing commitment to community service and building connections within society.
“The platform also exemplifies the qualities of noble individuals and positive teaching values. We plan, execute, lead programmes, collaborate, and actively participate in groups to foster a spirit of love for the culture of helping fellow members of society and working alongside non-governmental organisations in safeguarding the welfare of orphans.”
The ‘Kami Prihatin’ programme, organised by PACE UUM students, was part of the requirements for the JA232 VKMB 2041 Course and was officiated by the Sibu Peryatim chairman Datuk Mohamad Yusnar Matalie.
In addition to the programme’s core activities, briefings and demonstrations on fire safety and self-rescue techniques were conducted by the Fire and Rescue Department and the Civil Defence Force.
Meanwhile, PACE UUM students actively contributed to knowledge-sharing within the programme.
