KUCHING: The newly built Farley Kuching has created more than 500 job opportunities for locals here.
“Since Farley’s inception in 1988 as a mini market, the group has always been serving the local community and able to help by creating job opportunities and also collaborating with different government agencies on various activities and public events,” said Farley Group director Eiseng Lau.
“We hope that we are able to continue our collaborative effort with both the public and private sector here in Sarawak, not only to boost our local economy but also to achieve the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030,” Lau said at the opening ceremony of Farley Kuching on Thursday (June 23).
As part of Farley’s corporate social responsibility (CSR), the group had donated and assisted those in need through various non-governmental organisations and vowed to continue to do so.
According to Lau, Yayasan Farley was set up in 2021 with the primary aim of supporting education for the needy and believed that every Sarawakian child deserved education and no one should be left behind because of financial constraints.
Early this year, Farley partnered with University of Technology Sarawak to establish a mutual academic cooperation.
The ceremony also saw Farley as the strategic partner of the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) initiative, which offers discounts and rebates to cardholders.
“Preliminary discussions with Social Welfare Department Sarawak (JKMS) is that KGC holders will be able to enjoy discounts ranging from five to 10 per cent on selected items at all Farley branches throughout Sarawak (Sibu, Bintulu, Kota Samarahan and Kuching). In addition, KGC members can also register as Farley members for free.
“Both parties however are still working closely together and hope to be able to kick-start this very soon.”
To symbolise the partnership, Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah handed over the plaque to Lau, witnessed by Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Speaking at the same event, Dr Sim also called upon other organisations to emulate Farley and its initiative on CSR programmes. “We need to do this together in order to make Sarawak more prosperous and inclusive.”
In conjunction with the opening, Yayasan Farley announced a collaboration with the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), with both parties committed to contributing to the community through various activities such as creating a resilient community towards total fire safety and disaster-resistant community; collaborate in organising fire safety programme and involvement in CSR; children fire safety
programme – Safe and Alert.
Also present were Farley Group chairman Lau Siew Whye, Kuching City South Council mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng and other guests.
