KUCHING: A resounding ‘Hidup PBB’ echoed through the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) as more than 4,000 delegates gathered for the 16th Triennial General Meeting (TGM) of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), marking a powerful show of party solidarity and commitment to its political mission.
The hall was a sea of red, symbolising the party’s strength, as members from all wings—the main body, Women’s Wing, Youth Wing, and the Youth 1828 Wing—assembled to chart the party’s future direction.
The event officially commenced at 10 am with the arrival of Premier and PBB president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, whose presence was met with enthusiastic applause and cheers from the delegates.
The gathering kicked off with a welcoming speech from PBB deputy president Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, reaffirming the party’s unity and confidence in its leadership.
This was followed by Abang Johari’s address, in which he outlined the party’s vision and strategy moving forward.
As a final symbol of loyalty and solidarity, PBB secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi led delegates in the PBB pledge, reinforcing their commitment to the party’s leadership and mission.
The strong turnout at the meeting reflected PBB’s continued dominance as the backbone of Sarawak’s political landscape, setting the stage for key discussions on the party’s direction in the coming years.
Meanwhile the highlight of the meeting this time was the contest of the four vice president posts and 30 Supreme Council posts.
The contesting candidates include four incumbents, namely Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, and Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.
They are facing competition from two new challengers, Datuk Len Talif Salleh and Datuk Ibrahim Baki.
In the Supreme Council contest, 20 members from the Bumiputera wing are contesting for the 16 seats, while 19 Pesaka members are contesting for the 14 positions.
The casting of the votes started at 4.40 pm, with Abang Johari being the first to cast his vote.
The results for the contested position are to be announced on Sunday (Feb 16) during the closing of the party’s TGM.
