KUCHING: The stone is set as the Mukah Rugby Carnival 2025 will host 40 teams from across Sarawak for a thrill-packed showcase of fun.

Taking place in May, the event is expected to draw over 600 players – including management staff – and an enthusiastic assembly of supporters, heralding a weekend of high-intensity rugby.

At the forefront of expectations, Mohd Ikmal Hisham, president of the Mukah Rugby Association, has expressed his ambition for the local contingent.

He fervently hopes that Mukah Rugby’s first team will secure the championship in the Cup category, while other Mukah division teams acquire invaluable competitive experience.

“This tournament is more than merely a competition; it is an opportunity to foster the growth and development of rugby within our region.

“Our aim is to orchestrate a meticulously organised event that champions sportsmanship, discipline, and a positive awareness of rugby throughout our community,” stated Mohd Ikmal.

The carnival will witness formidable participation from clubs spanning Miri, Bintulu, Sibu, Betong, Samarahan, and Kuching.

In the men’s open category, teams such as Mukah Rugby, Tibow X Otter, Tueto Wear RC, Bintulu Rugby, and UiTM Men will vie for supremacy.

Concurrently, the women’s open category is expected to feature Mukah Ladies -potentially bolstered by senior state players – alongside UiTM Women and UNIMAS Crotalus.

The youth divisions promise competitive action as well, with the Boys U17 category including teams like KV Bintulu, Panthers KV Sibu, and Lejo Belaga.

Meanwhile, the Boys U12 category is anticipated to showcase talents from Barracuda RC (Betong), Bintulu Dev U12, SSC Samarahan, SSC Kuching, SRK Otter (Daro), and SK Penakub Ulu (Mukah).

Marking the first major open tournament of the year in Sarawak, the Mukah Rugby Carnival 2025 is set to provide clubs and players with a platform to assert their prowess early in the season.

Rugby aficionados can expect a vibrant atmosphere underscored by exceptional talent and competitive fervour in what promises to be an unforgettable sporting spectacle.
