KUCHING: More than 3,000 individuals in Satok are eligible for the Sarawak Basic Needs Assistance (SKAS), said assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki.

Commenting on the SKAS registration drive held in his constituency on Saturday , Ibrahim said registration counters were set up at Satok Sports Complex and Dewan Pertubuhan Anak Seni Kampung Bandarshah.

“We are here today to help the people of Satok register for SKAS. This is an important initiative by the Sarawak government to assist the people amid increasing living costs.

“There are three categories of assistance as such RM800, RM400, and RM250. This year, the Sarawak government has allocated almost RM500 million for SKAS.

“Next year, there will definitely be an increase in allocation, as the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) led government remains committed to the people,” he said.

Earlier, he visited both venues to monitor the registration process as well as meet the recipients and assist with their registration.

Ibrahim said the SKAS registration programme is held over these two days – Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 4.30pm.

“Today and tomorrow’s registration will focus on residents around Kampung Nombor and surrounding areas. If this event is successful, we will move on to other areas.

“The response today has been decent, with a few hundred participants. Hopefully, tomorrow more people will come. If necessary, we may extend the registration next week. Otherwise, we will move to another area,” he said.

Ibrahim said that the goal is to cover as many of them as possible, though some may already be living elsewhere.

“After this, we may move to Segedup, Sungai Maong, and other areas, as there are still a few thousand eligible residents in Satok.

“If they have contact numbers, whether mobile or home, we will call them to turn up for registration, as some are already here while others may be unaware of today’s programme.

“We are proactively reaching out to residents, ensuring they are informed about today’s event rather than just waiting for them to show up,” he said.
