KUCHING: Over 1000 runners participated in the Malaysian Muslim Welfare Organisation (Perkim) Sarawak Charity Run held at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) foyer this morning (September 17).
The event was flagged off byPerkim Sarawak President Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib, who noted that the funds collected during the charitable endeavour would be used to assist those in need.
“Perkim consistently organises charity events, such as runs, to raise funds for various causes.
“We are involved in a range of initiatives, including education support, providing allowances for individuals in need, subsidising dialysis treatment, distributing food, and supporting religious activities.
“Importantly, we extend our assistance to individuals of all faiths. So, whenever there is a need for funds, we host events like this to gather resources for these purposes,” she told reporters at the Charity Run here today.
Furthermore, Hanifah encouraged the Perkim branches across Sarawak, comprising 21 branches, to actively participate in this collective mission to help those in need.
“Our charitable efforts are not focused on Kuching alone. We also strive to raise funds for our respective branches across Sarawak to support local communities,” she added.
The Charity Run featured two categories, a 5km Fun Run and a more competitive 10km Run, with dedicated runners arriving as early as 6am to participate in this event.
Also present were MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng and deputy mayor Datuk Dr Zaiedi Suhaili; and Perkim Charity Run and Fundraising Efforts chairperson Datin Azerina Mohd Arip.
