BINTULU: More than 1,000 people from different walks of life braved heavy rain and converged at Dataran Esplanade Bintulu in a demonstration of solidarity with Palestine on Sunday evening.

Some of the participants carried umbrellas, with some wearing raincoats, were seen praying, singing and waving the Palestinian flag.

Organised by MyCare Bintulu and other local humanitarian non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the peaceful rally started at about 4.30pm with those present singing the national anthem ‘Negaraku’ and state anthem ‘Ibu Pertiwiku’.

MyCare Bintulu spokesperson Ahmad Fathullah Ali thanked the local authorities, especially the police, Bintulu Development Authority and the Resident’s Office for allowing them to hold the rally.

He said those present at the rally showed how much the people in Sarawak, regardless of race and religion, care about the humanitarian issue in Palestine.

The executive officer of Hidayah Center Foundation Bintulu branch, Mohamasir Muhammad said the Palestinian issue is not about religion but about humanity.
