MIRI: Lecturers from Curtin Malaysia took time out to hold a workshop on vegetable planting for the residents of the Methodist Children’s Home here recently.
Wendy Law, Dr Lynn Ling Yew Hua and Dr Jong Ling, also organised a fundraising campaign that raised RM5,400 for the home before conducting the workshop for the children aged 7 to 18 with the help of Curtin Malaysia alumnus Kho Lian Buan, who runs a business selling plants.
The workshop was well received by the children, providing them with the essential knowledge and hands-on experience to create a self-sustaining vegetable garden at the home.
“We believe that imparting skills in sustainable agriculture can empower the children, providing them with the practical knowledge to not only start a garden at the home, but also on their own initiative in the future. It is our collective responsibility to support their holistic development,” said Law.
She also said the funds raised will go towards supporting the home’s daily operational expenses.
The Methodist Children’s Home is dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for orphaned children in Miri.
Established in 2004, its primary mission is to ensure the holistic development of each child under its care.
