KUCHING: The business sector in Malaysia, including Sarawak, will benefit from the opening of China’s border.
Honorary Fellow of the Future Institute (Time) Datuk Dr. Madeline Berma stated that the reopening of the Chinese border will accelerate growth in the state’s real estate and logistics industries.
She said that since China is a major economic force and Malaysia’s primary trading partner, opening this border will boost trade between the two nations.
She added that foreign trade and the tourism industry would both grow when approached by Suara Sarawak/New Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
According to reports, China would reopen its borders on January 8 of this year after having them closed for nearly three years due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Madeline accordingly stated that it’s probable that this might potentially lead to a rise in COVID-19 cases.
“Sarawak needs to exercise more strict control over Chinese tourists. Additionally, the expense of managing COVID-19 will rise.
Therefore, she said that in-depth study must be conducted to identify new viral varieties that may develop.”
