LUNDU: Seven paddy cultivation schemes under the Opar constituency received a financial injection from the government totalling RM23 million.

Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang, stated that the injection into these seven paddy cultivation schemes aims to increase their rice production productivity.

“The seven paddy cultivation schemes are Paya Damir, Paya Krangan, Paya Rukam, Paya Siabukng, Paya Jangkar, Paya Sebako, and Paya Nowang.

“Thus, the financial injection is in response to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s call for the state to become a rice-producing state in the future,” he said.

He said this after the closing of the Je’ Bahanyi Programme at Paya Endek Siru, Kampung Biawak recently.

Billy added the allocation is for improving the bund, irrigation, and drainage systems in these paddy cultivation schemes, with the aim of increasing the rice production from once a year to two or three times a year.

“The current rice harvest from three hectares of land can produce a maximum of four tonnnes of rice per year.
