MIRI: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) is committed to preparing young leaders to ensure the party’s continued success and relevance.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg stressed that the inclusion of youth in the party is essential for its future.

He urged members to welcome the younger generation into the party and to support their development.

“We are growing older, and the young must replace us. However, they must be trained because youth often act hastily.

“Training is necessary to equip them with wisdom and experience, which are crucial for making sound decisions,” he said during the PBB Sarawak Northern Zone Delegates Meeting here Saturday (Jan 18).

Abang Johari who is party president asserted that the current leadership, including him, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, were mentored by experienced leaders such as Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

He said this tradition of mentorship must continue to prepare the next generation to lead Sarawak forward.

On the same note, the Premier said Sarawak has made significant progress under the leadership of PBB and the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.

He noted the state’s strong financial position, as evidenced by a clean financial management record confirmed by the Auditor-General, and its substantial export contributions.

“Our financial management has been given a clean bill by the Auditor-General for several years, which shows our professionalism.

“Sarawak is also among the top five states in Malaysia for exports, and we have seen a reduction in poverty,” he said.

Abang Johari added that GPS remains committed to providing free education for Sarawakian children by 2026.

“This is not an easy task, but it is a promise we will fulfill. Only GPS has the capability to achieve this,” he said.

He also urged party members to remain vigilant against misinformation and to focus on strengthening PBB to ensure GPS can deliver its vision of making Sarawak a developed region by 2030.
