KUCHING: The construction of the Raudhatul Sakinah Kuching Complex, a one-stop centre for the management of human remains located at the Semariang Muslim Cemetery has finally been completed.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the complex, as part of the effort to provide facilities to the Muslim community, cost about nearly RM6 million.
“With these facilities, it will allow better management of burials for the Muslim community,” he said.
He said when officiating at the launch of the newly built complex here yesterday.
Abang Johari then recalled his conversation with the late chief minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem who had requested for such facilities to be built at the Semariang cemetery.
“Tok Nan (Adenan Satem) had visited the Semariang Islamic Cemetery and he told me that there should be facilities such as to ensure comfort of visitors when they pay their respects to their departed loved ones.
“So, thank God, I was able to fulfil the wishes of the late Tok Nan as well as the Muslim community here by having this facility constructed here,” he said.
He added that non-Muslims are also allowed to attend the funeral service of their Muslim relatives within the complex.
Meanwhile, the earth-breaking ceremony for the complex started on December 22, 2020.
The complex, which was previously known as Semariang Islamic Cemetery Complex (SICC) is developed by Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS).
The facilities provided in this complex include bathing, shrouding, and praying for the deceased.
In addition to funeral management facilities, the complex also provides other facilities such as business offices, prayer rooms, multi-purpose rooms, toilets, parking spaces and others.
According to LAKMNS, the complex is expected to be fully operational on this coming April 15.
