BINTULU: A crash that occurred at Mile 22, Bintulu-Miri road on Thursday night left a pick-up driver dead, while his four passengers sustained bodily injuries.

All five were male foreigners – three Indonesians (including the deceased) and two Bangladeshis.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said that at 7.50pm, the deceased identified as Samawen, 27, and his four passengers were heading towards Miri from Bintulu when the pick-up smashed into a road divider.

Those injured, aged between 39 and 51, were rushed to Bintulu Hospital for treatment.

“The Toyota Hilux crashed into the divider, and Samawen was flung out,” Supt Alexson said, adding that the vehicle turned turtle upon hitting the divider.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
