SIBU: The old Taman Selera Muhibbah building at Pedada Road here will be demolished to make way for a new one.

“Hawkers will have a better place to trade once the RM3.5 million new building is completed at the existing site,” said Sibu Municipal Council (SMC)’s Market and Petty Traders Standing Committee chairman Cr Albert Tiang.

He revealed that the old building had existed for the past 19 years.

“Construction work on the new building will commence early next year and is expected to be completed in one year’s time,” he told reporters at the ‘Muhibbah Night’ held at Taman Selera Muhibbah on Saturday evening (Oct 31).

Tiang said the new building, which would house 54 stalls, would have a centralised automatic dish washing unit.

“Currently, 45 hawkers are trading at the present building.

“Actually, there were 50 stalls but five stalls were left vacant a few months ago,” he said.

While waiting for the completion of the new building, the traders, Tiang said, would be temporarily relocated at the Tapang Road open space opposite RTM Sibu.
