KUCHING: All government and private sector employees will be given until tomorrow to obtain their confirmation letters for the purpose of applying inter-zone travel permits.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail when contacted, said the police will give flexibility to those who have yet to have confirmation letters, to obtain it (letters) and apply for inter-zone travel permit from the nearest police station.

“For the meantime, they can use their employee passes (to cross zones). From Thursday (May 27) onwards, everyone is required to have the police permits

“Whereas, Grab and Foodpanda delivery drivers or riders who need to cross zones, will also have to acquire weekly permits like other employees,” he pointed out.

Failure to produce inter-zone travel permit at designated roadblocks, will result compounding action and they will be ordered to turn back.

Meanwhile, on the roadblocks set up to enforce the inter-zone travel restriction, Aidi stated that five additional roadblocks have been set up, namely two each in Serian and Lundu, with one in Bau.

On Monday, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) announced that travel between zones for essential services, people at work and emergencies, are allowed but with police permits

The committee has divided Kuching Zone into four smaller zones, namely Kuching zone (covering Kuching and Kota Samarahan), Serian zone, Lundu zone and Bau zone.

“For affected residents serving in the four said zones, they are excluded from having to take swab test every 14 days and are allowed to apply for police permit by submitting a letter from their respective employers,” SDMC said.
