KUCHING: Sarawak’s Nur Dania Syuhada Abedul Samad is set to create history as the first-ever Sarawakian to captain the Malaysia women’s T20 cricket team in the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, on Jan 18.
A rising star in the cricketing world, Nur Dania Syuhada earned her stripes by leading Sarawak to their first-ever Women’s T20 Inter-State MCA Cricket Championship title on Jan 3.
Her remarkable leadership and dedication have now earned her the coveted role as captain on the global stage.
The road to the World Cup has been a journey of relentless preparation.
“We’ve been training in Kuala Lumpur for almost a year now.
“I’m hopeful that my teammates will adapt well to the challenges ahead and draw inspiration from our experiences in the Asia Cup,” she told Sarawak Tribune recently.
This World Cup marks a major milestone for both Nur Dania Syuhada and Malaysian cricket as it is the nation’s first-ever appearance at the tournament.
The 19-year old remains optimistic despite being placed in a tough Group A alongside powerhouses India, Sri Lanka and the West Indies.
“Our focus is to play our best cricket. We have the strength and experience, especially from the Asia Cup, to compete strongly,” she said.
Nur Dania Syuhada’s journey to this point began in 2019 when she was first selected for the national squad.
Her years of hard work and training, including at the renowned Bukit Jalil Sports School, have paved the way for this monumental achievement.
Now, with the World Cup on the horizon, Nur Dania Syuhada is ready to inspire her team and lead Malaysia into uncharted territory, setting her sights on a historic performance on the world stage.
