LONDON (United Kingdom): Darwin Nunez’s late brace secured a 2-0 win for Liverpool at Brentford, extending their Premier League lead to six points over Arsenal, who drew 2-2 against Aston Villa.
Nunez, who hadn’t scored in the league since November, found the net twice in stoppage time, finishing off a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross and then cutting inside to fire past Brentford’s goalkeeper.
This crucial win followed a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest, where Liverpool had wasted chances.
Meanwhile, Arsenal seemed in control at home with a 2-0 lead at halftime, thanks to goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz.
However, Villa fought back in the second half with a header from Youri Tielemans and an equalizer from Ollie Watkins.
A potential late winner for Arsenal was ruled out by VAR due to a handball by Havertz. Liverpool’s win, combined with Arsenal’s draw, gives the Reds a six-point lead at the top. – AFP
