KUCHING: What was feared to be an acid spill turned out to be just chemical vapours in a school laboratory yesterday.
According to State Fire and Rescue (Bomba) operations centre, the Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call about an acid spill at SMK Petra Jaya around 11.15am.
Following the call, a team of firefighters was despatched to the scene along with a hazmat team from the Tabuan Jaya fire station.
Upon arrival, the firefighters and the hazmat team found no acid spills in the school’s laboratory.
Instead, they found out that the unpleasant odour in the laboratory was due to chemical vapours and inefficient ventilation fans.
The hazmat team reported that the chemical was cyclohexene.
