KUCHING: Former permanent secretary of the Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Noriah Ahmad, was appointed as a member of the Sarawak Women and Family Council today(Feb 29).
Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah stated that the appointment was in line with Noriah’s extensive experience.
“Looking at the services rendered, she has successfully led by example, inspiring others and making valuable contributions to the progress of our ministry.
“The same applies to the agencies under her purview, including the establishment of the Women’s Training Centre (WWTC), the establishment of the State Women and Family Department (JWKS) in Kuching, Serian, Sarikei, Sibu and Bintulu divisions; e-women applications, and others.
“Therefore, we highly appreciate the contributions she has made in bringing positive changes to this ministry,” she said.
Fatimah made these remarks after holding a meeting of the Sarawak Women and Family Council (MWKS) at Wisma Wanita here.
She then presented the appointment letter to Noriah, witnessed by JWKS Director Adana Jed and other Women’s Council members.
Noriah began her service in the Sarawak Civil Service in 1995 as Assistant Director, Human Resource Development Division in the Chief Minister’s Department.
She also served as Executive Secretary of the State Social Development Council under the Ministry of Social Development and Urbanisation from 2003 to 2004.
Noriah returned to the Chief Minister’s Department from 2004 to 2011 before being appointed as Director of the Sarawak State Social Welfare Department in 2011.
Subsequently, she served as Director of the Women’s Bureau until successfully elevating it to the JWKS officially on January 15, 2015.
In 2021, she returned to the Sarawak Department of Social Welfare before assuming the position of Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women, Children and Community Development Sarawak in 2023.
