SIBURAN: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate in Puncak Borneo parliamentary seat, Datuk Willie Mongin thanked his four competitors who had lobbied to contest for the seat.
They are Rangen Jamang, Wejok Tomik, Neuchlos Jub and Wilson Ahon, all from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).
Willie, the incumbent who had won the seat in 2018 general election under Pakatan Harapan (PH-PKR) ticket before he left to join PBB this year, hoped that the four could forget any differences between them and invited them to give him full support in GPS’s efforts to win the seat.
He was speaking at the launch of GPS election machinery for the Puncak Borneo constituency at Kampung Sinjok Hall here yesterday.
Minister of Education, Science and Talent Development and State assemblyman for Tarat, Datuk Roland Sagah said the campaigning process in the Puncak Borneo constituency has been smooth with the cooperation of all three assemblymen, himself, Datuk Dr Jerip Susil (Mambong) and Miro Simur (Serumbu).
He refuted allegations of sabotage by the individuals who had also lobbied to become GPS candidate in the Puncak Borneo seat.
“That’s just people’s talk and I believe there is no sabotage. Things can be discussed and resolved because we are in the same family (in PBB),” he said.
Sagah is also confident that the GPS candidate (Willie) can win and retain the seat he won on the PKR ticket in the 2018 general election.
Meanwhile, Willie when met by reporters later said his campaign process went smoothly with large turnout at each ceramah while calling on voters in Puncak Borneo to continue to trust him to represent them in parliament.
He said he has many plans for the Puncak Borneo parliamentary area and its people.
In addition to infrastructure projects and facilities such as roads, electricity, water supply and telecommunications facilities, he also wants to help in developing human capital among the community in Puncak Borneo.
“We need intelligent and skilled human capital so that we can develop their socio economy,” he said.
