KUCHING: Hotels and food premises without the Malaysia Halal Certification are prohibited from using terms such as Buffet Ramadan, Iftar Ramadan, Jom Iftar, Selera Ramadan, and similar phrases in their advertisements ahead of the upcoming fasting month.
The Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) announced this in a statement on its official Facebook page, noting that any reference to food intended for Muslim consumption during iftar (breaking fast) is strictly regulated.
“This restriction applies to all types of media, including printed brochures, posters, banners, social media advertisements, and others.
“Violations may result in fines of up to RM500,000 and additional penalties not exceeding RM10 million,” the department said.
JAIS urged all business operators to obtain the Malaysia Halal Certification before offering or promoting Buffet Ramadan and similar services.
