MIRI: No radiation was detected from an object believed to be China-owned rocket debris found in Sepupok, Niah, here yesterday.
According to Batu Niah Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), they received a call at about 4.50pm to assist the Atomic Energy Licensing Board agency, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
“The radiation inspection operation carried out by the Atomic Energy Licensing Agency, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation found that the object had no radiation.
“Meanwhile, the operational team at the location is only ready to provide any service if needed,” a spokesperson for the station said today. Also at the location were the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).
Earlier, Miri district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that he received a report from a resident from Batu Niah regarding the discovery of the metal fragments.
He said, as a result of a preliminary investigation by the police, they found metal fragments embedded in the ground at a depth of approximately one meter in the area around the house of one of the residents there.
He said, the incident area has been closely monitored to ensure that no untoward incident occurs.
He added that the public was also advised not to be in the area near the scene because it was feared that the metal contained radioactive material that could be harmful to their health.
