KUCHING: Sarawak recorded no new positive Covid-19 case for the second consecutive day on Friday, with the total number of positive cases in the state remaining at 570.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said there were also no new recoveries and discharge cases.
“The total number of positive Covid-19 cases which have recovered and been discharged remains at 537 or 94.21 percent,” he said at the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Covid-19 daily update press conference on Friday.
He said that 16 individuals were still receiving treatment at the hospitals. The state’s death toll from Covid-19 remained at 17.
“Forty-five new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases have been reported, and one is awaiting laboratory results,” he said.
He added that 64 person-under-surveillance (PUS) cases had been checked into hotels on Friday to undergo quarantine, bringing the total number of PUS at 13 hotels statewide to 983 while 16,659 PUS had completed their quarantine period.
Uggah, who is also SDMC chairman, reported that the State Health Department had issued a compound notice to the woman who recently returned from Tunisia to Miri as she had given false information.
“Further action will be taken if she fails to pay the compound within the set period,” he said, while appealing to all individuals entering Sarawak to provide authentic information when filling out the e-Health declaration form.
Meanwhile, he said that 2,274 premises had been surveyed so far for compliance with directives under the recovery movement control order (RMCO), consisting of supermarkets (360), restaurants (442), factories (17), banks (214), government offices (75), hawkers (33), public markets (208), places of worship (115), recreational places (80), construction sites (43), and others (687).
He reminded that although numerous relaxations had been allowed by the state government during the RMCO and the number of cases was decreasing, the community should not be lax as efforts to break the Covid-19 chain were still ongoing.
Uggah urged the public to always comply with the directives of the RMCO by adhering to all standard operating procedures (SOPs), practising social distancing, frequently washing or sanitising hands, and wearing face masks.
