- 239,671 pupils from primary one to six begin their new school session
- 187,579 students start 2019 session from transition to Form 5 classes
KUCHING: The first day of school here yesterday drew out varying views and expressions from parents who accompanied their primary one children.
At one of the schools, it appeared that some parents were excited, some were nervous, some looked fine while a few just seemed cool and nonchalant.
The common antics of crying and “tugs of war” between mothers or fathers and their children were no longer seen on the first day in most primary schools.
Perhaps most of the children have been exposed to early child learning in nurseries or kindergartens.
A visit to several schools yesterday morning found primary one pupils behaving well.
For example at SK Mukah, scenes of primary one pupils crying or refusing to enter the class on the first day are now things of the past.
Meanwhile, a total of 38,832 pupils were enrolled in primary one throughout the state in 1,265 schools.
Overall, 239,671 pupils from primary one to six began their new school session.
At secondary school level, a total of 187,579 students started their 2019 session from transition to Form 5 classes. Of this figure, 42,689 students enrolled themselves in Form 1.
In Sabah, a total of 462,052 students began their school session at 1,074 primary and 222 secondary schools.
From the total, 32,264 were Year One pupils while 45,883 students were in Form One.
