KUCHING: The time for Sarawak to remain calm is over, says Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, adding that it was time for Sarawak to take legal action.
The Batang Sadong MP said Sarawak had been acting within the rule of law, and “we never even uttered to do so because we have always worked within the ambit of the law”.
She was responding to the Prime Minister’s statement in New York that the 20 per cent oil royalty for Sabah and Sarawak would no longer be workable in order for Petronas to stay on as an international oil company.
“Now they (federal government) have to appeal to both the Borneo states. This is really absurd.
“We are witnessing the true colours of the federal government, giving one excuse after another,” Nancy said.
“As federal government, they should be more responsible towards states within the federation, more so when Sarawak has given so much to Malaya.
“Sarawak should not give face to Malaya as they are very ungrateful towards Sarawak,” she stressed.
“The federal government is behaving like a ‘lion roaring’…trying to scare the Sarawak government. Hence, there will be more excuses if Sarawak does not proceed with a law suit.
“Since they do not fulfill their own promises, and all the statements were recorded in videos, which could serve as evidence for Sarawak, we certainly have a good legal cause,” she said.
Nancy pointed out that there was no need to talk about exchange of terms and conditions anymore.
“I have said it many times that we have fed Malayans through our wealth and they also see with their own eyes how Sarawak has been lagging in development.
“Why should we appeal? They are just being inhuman and selfish,” she noted.
