KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has clearly indicated that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will not give way to peninsula-based parties in the 15th general election, said its secretary general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

Nanta said, as chairman of the supreme leadership council of GPS, Abang Johari had remarked on several occasions that GPS would contest in all 31 Parliamentary seats in Sarawak during the upcoming general election.

“This clearly shows our party’s stand and so that’s it for now,” he said when approached by New Sarawak Tribune recently.

When asked, whether GPS would discuss to give opportunity to its friendly-parties (peninsula-based), Nanta stressed that he would not make any assumption yet.

“We abide by our chairman’s remarks, and that is the GPS stand now,” he pointed out.

He said for the GE15, GPS has always been in a state of readiness.

“Especially, after the state election recently, our machinery is always ready and well prepared for the next election.

“For us in Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), we will hold a triennial general meeting in June, and for now our branches are holding their respective meetings. So, it helps a lot in our preparation for the election soon,” he added.

For records, in a meeting with Abang Johari before the state election in December last year, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said they had made an understanding that Bersatu would support GPS in the state election by not fielding any of its candidates.

In return, Bersatu hopes to work with GPS in the parliamentary election.
