KUCHING: An entertainment centre caretaker was fined RM1,500 in default three months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here today for operating beyond the permitted hours set by local authorities.
Philip Seng Ubam, 33, from Sarikei, pleaded guilty to the charge read by the court interpreter before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.
According to the charge, he was accused under By-law 24 of the Entertainment By-laws 2001 and is punishable under By-law 28 of the same legislation.
He was found guilty of operating the entertainment centre beyond the permitted hours from 12 pm to 2.30 am, Monday to Friday. The offence took place at an entertainment centre in Kota Sentosa at 2.57 am on December 29, 2024.
According to the facts of the case, the complainant, a police officer leading his team from the Padawan District Police Headquarters (IPD) Criminal Investigation Division, conducted a special operation, Op Noda Khas Pusat Hiburan, on that day.
During the inspection of a business establishment in Kota Sentosa, it was found to be operating beyond the permitted hours, with music still playing and several patrons present.
A man, identified as the caretaker of the premises was arrested and several pieces of equipment were seized.
Investigations revealed that the establishment was operating beyond its permitted hours despite having a valid entertainment licence issued by a local authority, which is valid until December 31, 2025.
