MIRI: Various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in this district may join the newly formed welfare task force to help reach out for the needy who are struggling during the  current Covid-19 pandemic.

Minister in charge of the Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC), Datuk Lee Kim Shin said that the task force aimed to coordinate NGOs’ efforts in distributing food aid to those badly affected by the movement control order (MCO).

To join the task force, the NGOs can contact the secretariat (Miri Division Social Welfare Department) at 085 -419 073, 085-419 072, 085-424 534 and 085-424 535 or via email pkmbmirisarawak@gmail.com.

Lee added that all NGOs in the task force must first consult the secretariat for coordination.

“The welfare officers will investigate, coordinate and update assistance records before arranging for the delivery of the food assistance by the NGOs. Deliveries must be reported back to the Welfare Department for record purposes,” he explained.

Lee revealed that the MDDMC had received numerous complaints from the public of  individuals who abused the white flag movement.

“Some have received aid but still refuse to take down the white flag.  This is definitely unfair to others because some of them receive food assistance five to six times while others who are more in need have not,” he said.
