KUALA LUMPUR: Yayasan Chow Kit has proven that non-governmental organisations (NGOs) can make a significant impact in protecting and uplifting neglected children — especially when their efforts are carried out with sincerity and determination.

Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah described Yayasan Chow Kit’s approach as a model worth emulating in efforts to empower child welfare, including for vulnerable groups without documentation or citizenship.

“The inclusive and holistic approach practiced here is truly commendable.

“We see great potential in adopting such a model in Sarawak, taking into account our local needs and context,” she said during her official visit to the welfare centre on Tuesday (Apr 15).

The delegation was welcomed by the Founder of Yayasan Chow Kit, Datuk Dr. Hartini Zainuddin, who shared the foundation’s vision and ongoing efforts to provide protection, education, and personal development for marginalized children.

The delegation also visited the One Stop Children Centre building — a four-storey facility currently undergoing renovations since Mar 14 2022, and expected to be completed by Jun 21 2025.

The facility will include eight classrooms, two dormitories, a treatment room, prayer space, gymnasium, and a rooftop garden.

According to Fatimah, this visit marks a new chapter of collaboration between the Sarawak Government and NGOs like Yayasan Chow Kit, aimed at expanding the social protection network and strengthening the support system for children across the country.
