KUCHING: The Sarawak Initiatives (TSI), a civil society, is planning to set up a service and resource centre to develop talented people.
Newly-elected chairman Sidi Munan said the centre will provide reading and educational materials, as well as facilities to aid the personal development of its future leaders.
“The centre will be equipped with adequate information on Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole, to help inculcate better understanding among the individuals on the history and progress of the country in their bid towards nation building.
“The centre could play a key role in the civil society’s pursuit of its five main objectives, with a global perspective that focuses on issues faced by Sarawakians,” he said, said after TSI’s annual general meeting here today.
Sidi succeeds founding chairman Datuk John Tenewi, who is now the advisor.
Former Unimas lecturer Prof. Dr. Hamsawi Sani is the deputy chairman, and businessman Goh Leng Yeu retains his post as the secretary.
Also retaining their posts are treasurer Datuk Mohidden Ishak, committee members Ratanah Devi Yusof Perumal, Margaret Philip Bedus, and Dr Paul Tulik Peter Raig.
The new committee, which will serve for the 2022-2024 session, has admitted two new members, namely Dr Ipoi Datan and Dr Nur Aida Kipli.
Sidi said TSI plans to organise more activities in the near future in line with the society’s tagline ‘Dare to Dream for a Better Sarawak’.
Sidi hoped that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government would “remain open to meet with TSI leaders to have discussions on building a better Sarawak, and allocate funding for the association to help organise activities for the benefits of Sarawakians, especially the younger generation to inculcate positive outlook for a better future”.
He said the Sarawak-based NGO aims to promote and help Sarawakians attain a high level and standard of education; create a peaceful and harmonious living environment; cultivate good values and integrity; create a unique Sarawak identity based on Sarawak’s cultural diversities; and create a healthy economy.
